PARENT GROUPS

The Solihull Approach trains practitioners to be facilitators of 4 types of face-to-face parenting groups. All groups, from Antenatal onwards, promote responsive and reflective parenting.

Parent Groups

  1. Firstly, the Solihull Approach group for parents ‘Understanding your child: from toddler to teenager’ is for any parent of children aged 6 months to 19 years. There are free Addendums available to customise the group for adoptive parents, parents of children with a learning difficulty, parents of children with disabilities and parents of children on the autistic spectrum. This group was given the top rating for value for money by the Early Intervention Foundation (EIF).
  2. Secondly, the Solihull Approach Postnatal group ‘Understanding your baby’ is for any parent of a child aged 0 to 6 months.
  3. Next, the Solihull Approach Postnatal Plus group is for any parent with relationship difficulties or postnatal depression.
  4. Finally, the Solihull Approach Antenatal group ‘Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth and your baby’ is for anyone expecting a baby and anyone around the mother, e.g. father, partner, grandparents, birth partner, etc.

The groups are evidence-based, with both qualitative and quantitative published research. See the research section for more details.

In addition, an RCT has been published on ‘Understanding your child: from toddler to teenager’, with very positive results.

Every training is cascadable, supporting sustainability and coverage.

All the groups are also available in online form, supporting accessibility.

Each group promotes reflective parenting.

Furthermore, we also provide a manual for delivering a course on parenthood in schools. There are 9 lessons of 45 minutes. It is £59 for the manual which is delivered to the school.
