New online course for Mental Health Awareness Day

Published 10 October 2023

In recognition of World Mental Health Awareness Day today, October 10th, we are delighted to unveil a new online course titled Understanding your own trauma.

Psychological trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event or series of events that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope. By understanding trauma and emotional health needs, we believe it is possible to process traumatic experiences to help manage triggers and recover this ability.

Developed by a team of clinical psychologists and professionals, and shaped by experience this online course offers a safe and accessible platform for individuals to explore their own experiences and gain a deeper understanding of trauma’s impact on their lives.

Trauma overwhelms the processes in our brain which usually help us to make sense of experiences. It can have devastating long-term impacts for people and their family and friends. This course is designed to support a better understanding of trauma and the importance of relationships in trauma processing, because it is our relationships in our childhood and as adults that shape our emotional wellbeing and our resilience in managing and overcoming trauma.

– Dr Hazel Douglas MBE, Clinical Psychologist, Founder and Director of the Solihull Approach

The Understanding your own trauma course is designed to be flexible, allowing participants to engage at their own pace and convenience, anytime and anywhere. By following this course, individuals can gain the knowledge and tools needed to better navigate their personal journey and emotional wellbeing. However, it is not a replacement for therapy.

Understanding your own trauma is designed to help learners to:
