All practitioners start with our 2 Day Foundation training, to introduce them to the Solihull Approach and how it can be used in their daily work on a one-to-one basis.
The Solihull Approach offers a 2 Day Foundation training for groups of professionals in the UK and internationally.
This training aims to increase emotional health and well-being, as well as introducing delegates to the developmental effects of childhood trauma in relation to working with children and their families. (More information on the impact of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) is included in the Solihull Approach Advanced Training 'Understanding Trauma')
The Solihull Approach introduces a model for understanding the impact of relationships on health and wellbeing and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on health and wellbeing. It supports effective and consistent approaches across agencies as a shared framework.
The Solihull Approach training is designed for any practitioner working with babies, young children and school-aged children, young people and their families to support the use of the Solihull Approach from any agency. The training is for 12 people at a time.
This course is for Children's Centre workers, Health Visitors, Family Support Workers, School Nurses, Education Practitioners etc.
The First Five Years resource pack has a comprehensive set of handouts for parents on various issues in the first five years: sleeping, weaning, toileting, playing, emotional and physical development. The School Years resource pack includes brain development, the Solihull Approach model, applying the model to school aged children (including adolescents), information on issues such as depression, phobias, eating disorders etc.

There are two weeks between Day 1 and Day 2 to enhance theory into practice.
You will need a relevant Solihull Approach Resource Pack for each professional. This encourages further reading about the model and its application, enhancing theory into practice. The Resource Packs include photocopiable handouts for parents. The usual practice is for everyone to have their own resource pack, in order to gain the most value from the training, to move learning into practice. The minimum requirement during face to face training is for one pack between two people, but it is preferable to have one per delegate. Practitioners must also have easy access to a resource pack, paper or e version after training to move theory into practice. The resource packs include more information on the Solihull Approach model and use real case studies to illustrate the use of the model in practice. During COVID and working from home, therefore, practitioners will need their own copy for training.
We have found that in order to support professionals continued use of the Solihull Approach and to move theory into practice, it is vital to put into place a plan for ongoing support before the training begins, see Making it Happen. £1499 for a group of 12 or £189 for 1 person attending training in Solihull. This does not include the price of Resource Packs. This does not include trainers travel costs or accomodation. We try to use trainers near to you to keep costs to a minimum.
