Parenting Group Facilitators’ Manual. To run the ‘Understanding your child’s behaviour’ group for all parents, mothers and fathers, of children aged 6 months to 19 years. 10 sessions of 2 hours each. Focusses on relationships. Behaviour management is thought of within the context of the relationship. Photocopiable handouts for parents. No literacy required in the group. Has been run successfully in different cultures, in the UK, Pakistan and Africa. Parents and facilitators enjoy the group. Quantitative and qualitative research published with more on the way.
There are free Addendums available to adapt the group for parents of children with disabilities, parents of children with ASD and for adoptive parents. We estimate that if you have 2 facilitators, paid £20 an hour each, with 7 hours preparation time, 3 hours supervision time, 40 hours group time, 1/2 hour set up time for each group and 1/2 hour debrief time for each group then £1500 would be your facilitator cost, with perhaps £10 for photocopying information for all the parents.
The Solihull Approach parenting group supports the recommended guidelines of the NICE guidelines for CG158: Antisocial behaviour and conduct disorders in children and young people: recognition and management. The group has a relationship based approach, aiming to develop a framework for thinking as a lifelong skill about parent/child relationships, promoting communication, exploring feelings and effective behaviour management.
